A new mailbox status was introduced with Service Pack 1 for Exchange Server 2010: Softdeleted

Thanks to a reader (Rolf, thanks again) I found out that the new mailbox status was introduced with Service Pack 1.
But what exactly is the difference between a mailbox with the status "Disabled" or "SoftDeleted"?
If a mailbox is moved from one Exchange database to another, the mailbox is not deleted from the source database after the move, but is given the status "Softdeleted". In principle, the mailbox is therefore duplicated, once in the source database (soft-deleted) and once in the target database (online). Mailboxes with the status Softdeleted are permanently deleted from the database after the deadline for deleted mailboxes has expired.
A mailbox receives the status "Disabled" if the corresponding Active Directory user has been deleted. This mailbox is also permanently removed from the database after the deadline for deleted mailboxes has expired.
The deadline from which a mailbox with the status "Disabled" or "Softdeleted" is permanently removed from the database can be set in the properties of the mailbox database:
