Given the occasion, I would like to express my displeasure about "mail messies". Why do some users make it so difficult for the administrators and think their mailbox is a big garbage dump? 10% of users often occupy 90% of the database. I simply cannot understand why so many companies are so vehemently opposed to hygiene guidelines. They keep newsletters from the year 2000. Why?
"I still need the mail" is the standard excuse, even if the mail is already 5 years old, let's be honest, who looks at a 5 year old mail? "This is an invoice, we have to keep it for 10 years", what is an invoice doing in the mail server? But worst of all are the "Exchange-is-a-file-server" users: Because user B wants a file, user A sends him the 10 MB PowerPoint presentation by e-mail. That wouldn't be so bad if user A and user B weren't sitting next to each other and accessing the same file server resources. By the way, user B saves the presentation on his desktop and then moves the mail to "Processed".
Nice comparison: Moving an e-mail that has been read and processed to a "Processed" folder in the mailbox is a bit like taking a letter out of the mailbox, reading it, processing it, stapling it in a loose-leaf binder and squeezing it back into the mailbox.
What are your best excuses for mail messies? I look forward to every answer.
