Migration Exchange 2016 to Exchange 2019

I have divided the migration from Exchange 2016 to Exchange 2019 into four articles. To make the articles easier to find, here are the links in the appropriate order:

My brief conclusion on migration

The migration of the test environment went absolutely smoothly. Since the migration of the public folders is no longer a problem, but usually only the mailboxes need to be moved, the migration is completed fairly quickly. In principle, only the new Exchange Server needs to be installed and configured. Then the mailboxes can be moved. Migration from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2019 is just as painless.

Incidentally, my test environment here was running with only 16 GB RAM for the Exchange 2019 server. This is therefore a far cry from the "recommended" 128 GB RAM for Exchange 2019, but I did not notice any disadvantage with the small number of mailboxes. Small environments will therefore also manage with less RAM, although this is probably not intended by Microsoft. Microsoft only wants to place Exchange 2019 in the enterprise segment, and even then only for large companies that are "not yet" ready for Office 365 / Exchange Online.

My opinion

In my opinion, there is currently no reason for small and medium-sized companies to migrate from Exchange 2016 to Exchange 2019. The new features are almost negligible for most companies and Exchange 2016 will be supported for a few more years. So if you are using Exchange 2016, you can take a look at the new features and assess whether a migration is worthwhile. For users, not much will change with the new Exchange version anyway.
