Windows Admin Center is available (Project Honolulu)

Microsoft hat heute das “Windows Admin Center” freigegeben. Den Meisten dürfte das “Windows Admin Center” unter dem Codenamen “Project“ Honolulu” bekannt sein.

Now the official name has also been decided. The Windows Admin Center is a web-based application for the administration of Windows servers. I already briefly presented the preview in this article:

The Windows Admin Center is now ready for productive use. The MSI file for installation is just under 45 MB in size and can be downloaded here:

There is also a short introductory video:

The Windows Admin Center is free of charge and does not require an additional license. It can be installed on a Windows Server or Windows 10 Client. The following operating systems are supported for administration:

Windows Server 2008 R2 and earlier is not supported.

When I tried the preview, I was already very impressed. It was quick and easy. So I downloaded the final version straight away and here is my first impression of the final version:

No prerequisites need to be installed. The MSI file contains everything you need

I'm using the self-signed certificate for now, in the preview it was still quite tricky to use a different certificate. I'll test later how the certificate can be changed later:

The installation is done with just a few clicks and only takes a few seconds. After installation, the website can be called up directly:

The local server on which the Windows Admin Center has been installed can be managed directly:

I've just browsed a bit and I'm really impressed by the speed. The "old" server manager seems really sluggish in comparison.

I'll now store my servers and see if the Sophos UTM's web server protection also plays along. That would be almost too good to be true...
